How to Play Queens
Queens is a constraint satisfaction puzzle where you must place N queens on an N×N colored grid following specific rules.

Game Rules

  • Each row must contain exactly one queen
  • Each column must contain exactly one queen
  • Each color region must contain exactly one queen
  • Queens cannot touch each other horizontally, vertically, or diagonally

Controls

  • Tap/Click: Cycle through states: Empty → X → Queen → Empty
  • Arrow keys: Navigate between cells
  • Space: Cycle cell state (same as tap)
  • Enter: Toggle queen directly
  • X key: Toggle X mark directly

Difficulty Levels

  • Easy (5×5): 5 queens, 5 color regions
  • Medium (6×6): 6 queens, 6 color regions
  • Hard (8×8): 8 queens, 8 color regions
  • Expert (9×9): 9 queens, 9 color regions

Solving Strategy

  • Start constrained: Look for rows, columns, or regions with limited placement options
  • Use X marks: Mark cells that cannot have queens to narrow down possibilities
  • No guessing: Every puzzle has a unique solution that can be found through logic alone
